Summary of Claims Presented to
Aide financière aux études (AFE)

The claims process allows a financial institution to request that Aide financière aux études (AFE) pay a student loan debt in accordance with the guarantee to which the government consented with regard to financial institutions that participate in its student financial assistance programs.

List of Claims

The dropdown list allows you to select one claim from among the claims that have been registered, if applicable.

Information Regarding the Claim Selected

In the section “Information regarding the claim selected”, you will find the reference number assigned to the claim by the financial institution that presented the claim, the date of registration, the name of the institution and the grounds for the claim.

The processing status for a claim is indicated next, along with the date on which the information regarding this status has been given. The name of the officer in charge of your file at the Direction de la gestion des prêts, as well as his or her telephone number appear after this information.

Tables

Three tables may be displayed:

Amounts paid by AFE following the claim

The table, “Amounts paid by AFE following the claim,” provides the following information regarding the selected claim:

  • The class of the loan for which the claim was issued;
  • The amounts claimed (principal and interest) by the financial institution;
  • The amounts paid (principal and interest), if applicable, by Aide financière aux études;
  • The date on which accrual of the interest owed to the institution began;
  • The decision rendered by Aide financière aux études upon processing the claim (Accepted or Refused) and the grounds for its decision;
  • The total amount paid to the financial institution.

Additional amounts paid by AFE following the review

The table “Additional amounts paid by AFE following the review” is only displayed if the financial institution requested a review of the amounts paid by Aide financière aux études upon processing the claim. The following information is provided:

  • The class of the loan for which the claim was issued;
  • The additional amounts paid (principal and interest) by Aide financière aux études;
  • The date of the review;
  • The decision rendered by Aide financière aux études regarding the claim request (Accepted or Refused);
  • The total additional amount paid to the financial institution.

Amounts returned to AFE by the financial institution

The table “Amounts returned to AFE by the financial institution” is only displayed if the financial institution has returned all or a portion of an amount paid further to a claim (payment returned). This occurs, for example, when a repayment agreement has been concluded after Aide financière aux études has processed the claim and sent its payment to the financial institution. The table provides the following information:

  • The class of the loan for which the claim was issued;
  • The amounts returned (principal and interest) by the financial institution;
  • The date of receipt of the payment by Aide financière aux études;
  • The type of payment (Partial or Full);
  • The total amount returned by the financial institution.

Total amount paid to financial institution for selected claim

The total amount paid to the financial institution for the selected claim is displayed below the table(s).

That amount corresponds to the amounts paid by Aide financière aux études as a result of the claim, provided the claim was not reviewed and no payment was returned.

If a claim was reviewed, that amount corresponds to the sum of all the amounts paid by Aide financière aux études to the financial institution regarding the selected claim.

If no claim was reviewed but a payment was returned, the total amount paid to the financial institution is obtained by subtracting the amounts returned from the amounts paid.

If a claim was reviewed and a payment returned, the total amount paid to the financial institution is obtained by subtracting the amounts returned from the total of the amounts paid
