Full-Time Studies

Eligibility period

Financial assistance is awarded either in the form of a loan only or in the form of a loan and bursary for a number of months of study determined by your level of education, type of degree and program.

The eligibility period for a loan is the anticipated duration of study plus 15 months. The eligibility period for a bursary is the anticipated duration of study plus 6 months.

The anticipated duration of some programs is longer than the average. In such cases, the eligibility period for a loan is the anticipated duration of study plus 9 months and that for a bursary is the anticipated duration of study plus 6 months.

Months of assistance accounted for in the eligibility periods

The table entitled “Statement of months of assistance accounted for in the eligibility periods” indicates, for each level of education and each award year relating to your studies, the number of months of study in which you received financial assistance under the Loans and Bursaries Program. That is the number of months used to establish your eligibility under the Program.

Note that the months in which you received such assistance while studying as an independent student at university are accounted for. If applicable, an “X” will be displayed in the “Independent studies” column.

In addition, the number of months in which you are deemed enrolled are not accounted for.

Exceptional cases

If you were awarded financial assistance on an exceptional basis, that information will be displayed in the table as well. Please note that months of exceptional assistance are not included in the “Months of assistance accounted for” column.

“Before 2004-2005” column

If you were awarded financial assistance on an exceptional basis for a study period in an award year preceding the 2004-2005 award year, the letter “D” will be displayed in the “Before 2004-2005” column. Note that the study periods concerned will not be specified.

“2004-2005 or thereafter” column

If you were awarded financial assistance on an exceptional basis for a study period in the 2004-2005 award year or a subsequent award year, the letter “D” will be displayed in the “2004-2005 or thereafter” column.

Part-Time Studies

The table entitled “Statement of terms of assistance accounted for during part-time studies” indicates, for each level of education and award year, the terms for which you were awarded financial assistance under the Loans Program for Part-Time Studies.

An “X” displayed next to a term does not necessarily mean that you received financial assistance during that term. If you were awarded financial assistance for an award year, regardless of the amount awarded or the number of installments issued, you are considered to have received financial assistance for each term in which you were a part-time student that year.
